うる星やつら OVA episode 02 (OAV anime)
Urusei Yatsura OVA Ep. 02 review
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
A Mendou Conglomerate satellite over Japan suddenly becomes self-aware and in the process of trying to discover itself, it studies the recordings it has made of Tomobiki and certain people, including Ataru, Lum, Shuutaro, Shinobu, and of course, the Tomobiki High School itself. During the review process, the satellite realizes that it belongs to the Mendou clan and decides to name itself “Shuu-chan.” Once it has finished reviewing recordings, the satellite decides to leave Earth orbit and take a trip. This causes great issues with the Mendou Conglomerate, especially when the satellite’s last communication is to tell them what it is doing and what its name is.
Thoughts/Review:
Had O-chan not warned me ahead of time, I wouldn’t have suspected that the 2nd OVA release in the Urusei Yatsura franchise would also be a clip episode. ^_^; Like I said before, Japanese fans were expected to buy stuff like this, even though there’s not much value-add here.
Anyway, clip episodes are usually pretty “meh” to begin with. With the first OVA, a semi-intelligent story is crafted to give a reason for the clips, that being people telling stories to Ryoko. Here, things are confusing from the start as there are random clips interspersed with this satellite blathering to itself. It isn’t until later that we start understanding what the heck is going on with the satellite and the silly reason for the pointless clips.
This nearly 30-minute OVA is also padded by two anime music videos with possible new animation. I say “possible” because I didn’t remember most of the clips, so it is possible that this music animation was actually shown before.
Because this episode is such a waste of time, I’m not going to say more. I hear OVA 3 is a proper story-episode, so here’s hoping for something good.
